[It's not until later in the day when Tatsuma answers his phone, wincing as he notices the number of missed calls and texts. When he speaks, his voice is tired - not especially pained or strained, but definitely weary.]
I'm here.
no, this time is to WORRY SOUJI. his hair is already grey/silver, don't make it turn white
[...That's probably the important part to start off with, Mayor's words be damned. There's things even he can't keep entirely to himself, not with the possible ramifications.]
I didn't get hurt too badly. [It's barely touched upon, which is why it's such a stark change when his voice does strain:]
Souji-- there's souls trapped down there. I don't know how long, but... they don't even remember who they were.
but white haired anime boys die. does tatsuma want him to die
[ souji wants to interrupt and ask tatsuma on what getting hurt "too badly" means because they're the type of people to downplay their injuries. he wants to know tatsuma's actual condition but then his voice strains and he talks about souls and souji pauses. ]
Souls? You saw them?
[ the underlying question is whether or not everyone else saw them as well. souji knows that tatsuma has a special ability that allows him to see spirits so was it a thing that only he saw or was it bad enough that his group saw them as well? ]

like anything I could say would stop you from murdering the hell out of souji
[ that's... that's not a good thing. souji doesn't know too much about ghosts, especially ones in "real life" but if they can be seen by normal people, wouldn't that mean that they're... powerful ones? or at least abnormal? this is just based off what he knows about ghosts in certain folklore ]
[ souji can only imagine how difficult this could be for tatsuma, especially if tatsuma is thinking at all about his late grandparents ]
... do you have anyone who can be with you?
[ he wishes he could be there with tatsuma, to comfort him while he sounds like he's in pain, but he's not. he's thousands and thousands miles apart in some crummy woods and he can't help ]
[ tatsuma doesn't need to say more than that he's just going to paint for souji to know that he'll be alone. that house is entirely empty with the twins and shin and to sit there on your own after a traumatic event like that... souji knows exactly how terrible that feeling can be ]
Want me to stay on the phone with you? While you paint?
[ the smile in his voice doesn't help ease souji's worries, not when souji knows how lonely tatsuma's childhood was and he knows exactly how it feels to be alone. ]
It's not as important as you.
[ it's later in the day and all the exploration has been done. he could spend time with his other party members but nothing comes before tatsuma ]
[Tatsuma goes silent for a while at that. Because he is used to being alone, is used to finding ways to keep himself busy when there's no one else around.
Is used to painting to fill that silence, that emptiness.
But eventually...]
...I don't talk much when I paint. [Out of habit - there's seldom someone to talk to, unless he's specifically spending time with friends.] That's okay?
tatsuma "i'm going to go fight chimera and now won't answer my phone" hiyuu
chimeras were so two weeks ago, this time it's JUSTICE

Hey. Is everything okay?
white haired anime boys look nice too though

I could hear them.
don't you judge me
What were they saying?
no subject
[And there's pain in his voice as he says as much.]
I couldn't... find out more than that. It's all they know anymore.
[To be in such a state where that's all they could focus on...
Just what had happened to trap them down there?]

I'm going to go paint.
[It's... something. Something that reminds him of those late grandparents, even. Because no, there isn't really anyone around, but...]
I need to talk to Sorey about it. Once he's back.
He sees them too.

[And there's a hint of a smile in his words again, in spite of the subject.]
...I used to do that a lot. Painting, when I was little.
[And alone.]
You have stuff to do, right?
no subject
It's not as important as you.

[ he's not going to force tatsuma to talk if he doesn't want to but he'll be there when tatsuma does. ]
I'll tell you some jokes as well.

[There's the sound of movement on his side - the creak of the bed as he stands up.]
no subject
[ oh boy here we go ]
Knock knock.
no subject
Who's there?
[Clattering, now; he's collecting his supplies.]
no subject
Honeydew.
no subject
[And off he goes, phone tucked between the side of his face and his shoulder.]
no subject
[ don't drop your phone from laughing ]
no subject
I hear that a lot.
[He even manages to get himself to sound a little bit smug through his admittedly poor mood.]
no subject
[ tatsuma's his man. no one gets to sway his man ]
no subject
[He's no cheater - he hasn't even kissed anyone else.]

That's good. If your answer was a little different, I would send over Kohryu right now to get some dinner.
