There is a fleeting instant where Togusa feels triumph.
Fleeting because as soon as the door flies open, he realizes this was a trap, and he just underestimated a teenager.
He doesn't even have time to move, just enough time to automatically hold his breath as he gets absolutely drenched. Nice shot, Tatsuma.
"Pfffffft." Togusa breathes out, draws a hand up to try to wipe off his face, although his hair is now soaked, so it'll be futile. He shakes his head and points. "You..."
"...only got one shot with that thing." He raises the water pistol again.
Despite the abject frustration that being on the receiving ends of pranks has been for Togusa all month, at every step, he has been able to take that one extra breath and not overreact. His patience would be worn down to a nub at this point, if Ichirou Matuoka hadn't gotten to Togusa first.
Togusa gets it. For some people, what they hope to gain out of Retrospec is worth it.
But why, oh why have people been choosing the methods that they've been picking. Togusa steps forwards, and pulls the trigger on his squirt gun just for a second, a single stream of water into Tatsuma's hoodie. "Bang." But he smiles.
He shakes out his hair again, looks down at himself, and groans. "But really, though?" Oh, congratulations, Tatsuma, you bypassed Angry Togusa for Whining Togusa. "This is gonna suck for the rest of the day."
[His grin widens into an excited smirk that has a dark edge at that answer. Cutter ups the speed once more, dodging past people and cutting corners as if his life depended on it.]
Togusa almost reaches for his pocket, before he remembers. "Hunh. Left my phone back with Daisuke." Which means it didn't get drenched, so Tatsuma is lucky.
Another sigh. "Prank an authority figure, the four words that have been the bane of my existence the last two weeks." He looks up at Tatsuma questioningly. "You've got to be after something important, if you're playing the game. What are you hoping to get?"
[He doesn't answer, focusing instead on following Alan. His reflexes aren't bad at all, and especially with Alan as an example of where to jump and run first, he manages to keep up pretty well.
The voices calling for them to stop are fading. If they can just get out of their sights...]
Togusa nods, understanding. His own smile comes back quickly. "I probably wouldn't be bothering if I hadn't spotted one of those codes, just like we found in the subway and passed around to everybody." He huffs a quick laugh. "Under the square that said this, actually."
"But people keep saying that they've got something they need to remember. So, you looking for anything specific? Or, do you just need more of them?"
He pauses to think that one over. "I need to know more. But I'm not sure what." The pieces he's gotten are all fragments of a whole, and without any knowledge of what's missing, he can't even make a guess of it - not yet.
...Unfortunately, his quiet nature makes the sentence come out a bit more cryptic than intended.
"None of it makes sense at all yet?" Togusa has to ask. He hesitates and shakes his head. "Maybe it's none of my business. I have still been asking people what they're seeing, though. If anything starts to make a pattern. Nothing yet, though."
"I got...robots." Togusa's brow wrinkles. "I asked people about those, though."
Tatsuma hums softly as he considers his answer. "I remember... we fought monsters." There's at least two cases of it. "And some of the memories... have to do with a girl who became a zombie."
Hey! You're not bad at all! But can you also copy this?
[He flanks over a wall, lands, rolls off and does a series of leap-jumps across some decorative ornaments and a bicycle stand, showing off his body control and (still very beginner) parkour skills.]
Togusa looks up sharply at Tatsuma, brow wrinkled in concern. Not another one. Why are so many of the kids dragged into this remembering memories of fighting? He looks away, regretful. "I'm sorry for asking."
"I still don't know how the fight ended with the girl." His tone remains soft, but serious. "I remember there was a memorial for her... But I don't remember if she was able to pass on in peace." And the more he sees, the more concerned he gets. Was it even possible for any of those creatures-- no, those people to rest peacefully again?
"And also... My friends. I keep remembering them." And unlike some of the others here, he has yet to find anyone who resembles them now. "I want to know who they are, too."
"Zombies, you said," Togusa matches Tatsuma's soft tone, stays respectful, instead of incredulous. "Bodies, or spirits, denied that peace in death?" He isn't sure he's heard anything more horrible.
Togusa very slowly nods. "I can respect it. Especially if it's for friends. If there's a better way to remember, then," he nods more firmly. "Let me know how I can help. I'm not chasing it, but I'm willing to try to help the people who are."
He nods. "Not sure which." But regardless of whether it's a trapped soul or simply the body, they at least deserved the dignity of a peaceful rest both physically and spiritually - is his thought on the matter, at any rate.
